Now let's talk about ginger:

Ginger is a perennial plant from China belonging to the Zingeberaceae family. It grows up to 2 m in height and what we use is its rhizome (or root) which is finger-shaped.

Its active ingredients are given to it

Its essential oil: Zingiberene (of which it contains 0.5 to 3%)

The resins (5 to 8%) are what give it its spicy flavor, among them are Gingerols, Shogaols and Gingirolas.

It also contains:

Carbohydrates

Amino acids

Fats

Fiber

Vitamins

Minerals

Flavonoids

All these ingredients give ginger the category of “super food” since it helps us on multiple fronts to improve our health, among other things:

  • Anti-inflammatory (Gingerol gives it this property)
  • Antiemetic (helps prevent nausea) It has been found to be effective in combating any type of nausea, whether seasickness, nausea from chemotherapy, from an operation or morning sickness during pregnancy*, 1 gram of ginger is enough to prevent these annoying effects.
  • Reduces pain from physical exercise. Apparently, taking ginger while exercising reduces the characteristic pain that arises after the exercise itself.

It also helps against pain from inflammatory diseases (arthritis).

  • It helps the digestive system , stimulates the pancreas and this apparently increases the production of digestive enzymes that promote digestion and prevent the appearance of discomfort such as: bloating, flatulence, etc. It also helps increase digestive flora (microbiota) by acting as a natural antibiotic and attacking infectious bacteria.
  • It reduces or eliminates bad breath , either by taking it as an infusion or by chewing it (pickled). It also helps produce more saliva, which helps prevent dry mouth, which commonly occurs as a side effect of some drugs.
  • It is an aid in the treatment of gastritis , as its bactericidal properties help to eliminate the Helicobacter Pylori bacteria, responsible for gastric problems, and also neutralizes excess gastric acids, which are also responsible for the appearance of digestive and duodenal ulcers.
  • It helps with flu and colds , relieves fever, nasal and bronchial congestion due to its expectorant properties, as well as alleviating body pain (body aches). These properties are intensified with honey and lemon.
  • It helps improve heart function by promoting blood circulation and lowering cholesterol levels, helping to dissolve blood clots and thin the blood. It is also hypotensive by blocking calcium channels.

Due to all its properties, it is important to consult a doctor, especially when taking medications with the same function as ginger, e.g. anticoagulants, antiplatelets, hypotensive drugs.

It is also important to emphasize that the recommended daily dose of ginger is a maximum of one piece the size of a hazelnut if it is fresh and ½ to 1 teaspoon if it is dry (or powdered) in 1 cup of water or liquid of preference.

*It is important to consult with your doctor if it is allowed to be taken during pregnancy.

So now you know, take any of the Euro Ginger tea blends to enjoy its flavor and feel better.

Happy New Year!
