Results of the #FuerzaMéxico campaign EURO TE

As you know, following the earthquake that shook our city last September, EURO TE launched a fundraising campaign by means of a “commemorative” can with an original illustration by the artist Remi Cardenas and our herbal tea “Rooibos Sweet Dreams”.

It has been 8 months since the launch and with the help of our customers (who joined the initiative by selling the can without any profit) we managed to sell 249 cans, resulting in the following profits:

Utility of each can $74.91

Cans sold 249

Utility to donate $18,652.60

With these results, I set out to find someone who really needed help and who would find that this amount would make a difference in their home and family environment.

It was on an Uber ride that I ordered from our offices in Tlahuac when I was talking to the driver about the destruction that can still be seen in the neighborhood. I asked him if he knew anyone whose house was badly damaged and needed help. He told me that his girlfriend was in a very bad situation and was looking for a way to rebuild her house, that she was a secretary and a single mother of 2 girls.

So I gave him my card and told him about our initiative. Shortly after, his girlfriend Mayra wrote to me and this is part of what she told me:

“I told you that the earthquake damaged my house, leaving the slab on the verge of falling, the beams broken, as well as the walls. I waited for civil protection but they never came and for the safety of my daughters and myself I had to tear it down. I got some loans that I am still paying off and I sold my car and some valuable things I had to be able to build my house but it was not enough, the money ran out and construction was stopped.
The government did not give me any kind of help and now I am with my daughters in a room.
If EURO TE could help me buy the material I would be eternally grateful, I really can't go into debt any more, what I earn is enough to pay and cover only school and food expenses.
I am attaching some photos of how my house looked after the earthquake, and how far my construction ended.
Thank you very much in advance and I hope you can help me.”
Mayra Yadira Alcala Arenas

With this story and such striking photos, we went to meet her and talk to her to see if what we could do to help her would really make a difference, deciding that she was the right person for EURO TE and all those who supported the cause to help her.

They investigated what material he needed most urgently, how much they would charge for the labor, and it was decided to buy him enough material to make his floor, some of the material to flatten his walls, and give him the cash to pay for the labor so that the material would not be damaged over time.

This is how we bought the following for Mayra and her girls' house:

  • 40 bags of Toltec brand cement for $165 each, $6,600.00
  • 6 meters of black gravel $1,550.00
  • 6 meters of sand $1,600.00
  • 6 meters of yellow earth $1,180.00
  • 20 bags of Toltec brand cement of $165 each, $3,300.00

TOTAL $14,230.00

And we gave him a check for $4,812.00 which won't cover all the labor, but it will help him with most of it! With this we gave him a little extra on top of what he actually collected.

We sincerely hope that with the help of all of us who contribute to this work (customers, end consumers, friends, Remi and the EURO TE staff) a small difference can be made in Mayra's life.

Together we are better!
