We have all heard about smoothies that became fashionable in Mexico a few years ago, however, few know that this type of drink has been consumed in Latin America for a long time (fruit juices or purees).
It was not until the 60s when an American, Steven Kuhnau, came up with the idea of naming drinks that were prepared with fruit blended with ice and juice, sometimes adding yogurt or fiber, because as he was lactose intolerant he could not drink the popular milkshakes of the time. The curious thing is that he did not invent the word “smoothie”, this word was fashionable among hippies to name anything that was, as we now call it, “cool”.
Kuhnau opened a “health” food store called “The Smoothie King” in 1973, where he served these smoothies, and there are now 650 of his stores around the world.
Thinking about these nutritious drinks, I came up with the idea of mixing our fruit herbal teas with yogurt and some fruit to prepare a cold, delicious and healthy drink, especially when we don't have time to eat breakfast and we want to have something to help us start the day.
